TEMA: Talking about places - Hablando acerca de lugares

RESUMEN:

 Usamos las palabras "There is" y "There are" para declarar que algo existe o no existe. Básicamente estas estructuras tienen el mismo significado en español de "Hay" del verbo haber, lo importante que se tiene que tener en cuenta es diferenciar los sustantivos en plural y singular. En este caso para hablar de sustantivos en singular se hará uso de "There is" y en plural de "There are"

Ejemplos: 1.- There is a bank near your house. (Hay un banco cerca de tu casa.) 2.- There is one good restaurant down the street. (Hay un buen restaurante al bajar la calle.) 3.- There's a park five minutes away. (Hay un parque a cinco minutos de aquí.) There is es igual a There's (algo que también se puede notar en el último de los siguientes ejemplos). Ahora se muestran las mismas oraciones pero en forma negativa. En estos ejemplos se hace uso de "There is not". 1.- There is not a bank near your house. (No hay un banco cerca de tu casa.) 2.- There is not one good restaurant down the street. (No hay un buen restaurante al bajar la calle.) 3.- There isn't a park five minutes away. (No hay un parque a cinco minutos de aquí.) Ahora es el momento de ver la forma de estructurar oraciones afirmativas en donde se encuentra el sustantivo en plural, es decir, de dos o más. 1.- There are two bookstores in this city. (Hay dos librerías en esta ciudad.) 2.- There are some pencils on the table. (Hay algunos bolígrafos sobre la mesa.) 3.- There are several shopping malls at the downtown. (Hay varios centros comerciales en el centro.) De la misma manera que en los ejemplos pasados, ahora mostramos la estructura negativa de las mismas oraciones: 1.- There are not two bookstores in this city. (No hay dos librerías en esta ciudad.) 2.- There are not any pencils on the table. (No hay lápices sobre la mesa.) (Ninguno) 3.- There aren't shopphing malls at the downtown. (No hay centros comerciales en el centro.) Vamos a usar SOME para una determinada y poca cantidad de cosas o personas con oraciones afirmativas. Por otro lado se usa ANY en las mismas condiciones frecuentemente en oraciones negativas y preguntas. Pasemos directo a las Interrogaciones o preguntas usando "Is there" y "Are there" Ejemplos: - Is there a beautiful park in this town? - Is there a movie theater at the downtown? - Is there a shoe store in the mall? - Are there any gas stations around here? - Are there any libraries in this city? - Are there any gyms on your neighborhood? El uso de "There is" o "There are" para indicar que cierto lugar o cosa se encuentra en determinado espacio está prácticamente determinado por la naturaleza singular o plural del sustantivo del que se esté hablando o escribiendo.
